Roman Bathhouse Oil Dermabrasion

$62.00 USD

7 oz / 198 g

In ancient Rome, bathing was a daily ritual. Bathhouses were social sanctuaries that cultivated the art of high spa from their earliest appearance. Before the invention of processed soap, oils mixed with abrasives effectively cleansed the skin. Olive oil and hempseed oil, Mediterranean sea salt and bentonite clay were luxury means. A softening poultice of honey would follow the bathing regimen. The Roman bathhouse served a greater purpose than a mere place of bathing. It was a sensory experience which was meant to rejuvenate the spirit through touch, taste, hearing, sight and smell. Lavender would later derive its name from the Latin "to wash" after its historical use in perfuming the baths of ancient Rome. The legacy of the Roman bathhouse lives on in a jar which recreates the sacred space through the senses.
